The 1983 limited edition of Talking Heads’ “Speaking In Tongues” which was designed by artist Robert Rauschenberg, who won a Grammy for the design. It’s a clear vinyl LP that lives in the (once clear, now yellowed) case with three rotating primary-colored discs. The limited edition is now pretty hard to find in good shape; the case is flimsy and cracks easily on the edges.

“Perhaps death is not the hardest thing in a painter’s life… Looking at the stars always makes me dream, as simply as I dream over the black dots representing towns and villages on a map. Why, I ask myself, shouldn’t the shining dots of the sky be as accessible as the black dots on the map of France? Just as we take the train to get to Tarascon or Rouen, we take death to reach a star.”

Mapped the last 20 years of big pipeline related accidents. Red dots indicate those that led to fatalities.
Reblog to save it.
Reblogging this because I’ve seen a graphic going around with a mocking tone like “lol which of these pipelines is going to poison the water again?”
Well friend looks like the answer might actually be most of them! Pipelines have accidents that poison the water every year, all over the place! The reason DAPL was moved away from its original location was BECAUSE a major city worried about its water supply! This has been a concern in the planning from the very beginning! Stop being willfully ignorant because you hate protestors! The water poisoned may someday be your own.
If it isn’t already!
BOOM.

Perfect use of the Golden Spiral in composition. Everything causes your eye to flow right to the main characters. It starts with the street sign, moving to the giraffe necks, the curve of the polar bear’s back, the cheeks of the cheetah, straight to the focal point. Even in a busy, complex scene, you can easily lead the eye to what you want it to rest on.
There’s also some really good usage of color going on here. It’s subtle, but since pretty much everyone else is in shadow, the light leads you right to the main characters. Especially since there are so many cool tones and the fox dude (I’m a bad animation person, I forgot his name) is red/orange. Really good calls for such a busy image.
